The office of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin, has stated that it is awaiting a signal from Washington regarding a possible meeting between President Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Both Trump and Putin said last week that they are prepared to meet, but so far, neither party has disclosed when or how the meeting may take place.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday, "So far, we have not received any signal from America. However, we are prepared. We have heard that America is also preparing in a similar manner." The relationship between these two nuclear powers has been at its worst since the Cold War due to the ongoing Ukraine conflict, which has lasted for nearly three years.

On January 20, after taking office as President of the United States, Trump said last Thursday that he would soon seek to meet with Putin to reach an agreement to end the war.

The following day, on Friday, Putin praised Trump, describing him as a "sharp" and "pragmatic" person. The Russian president mentioned that if Trump had been president, the Ukraine conflict might not have started in 2022.

Meanwhile, Kyiv has issued a warning regarding the potential meeting between the two leaders, excluding Ukraine. They have accused Putin of attempting to use Trump for his own strategy.
