Taiwan Delegation Attends President Donald Trump's Inauguration with Special Importance
Taipei, January 18: The head of Taiwan's delegation for the inauguration of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that they are bringing the "highest blessings" to the United States.
While China views Taiwan as its own territory, Taiwan received strong support from the first Trump administration, including the regularization of arms sales, which has continued under President Joe Biden. However, during the campaign, Trump had unsettled Taiwan by suggesting that it should pay for its defense.
Han Kuo-yu, the Speaker of Taiwan's Parliament and a senior member of the opposition Kuomintang party, who ran for president in 2020, spoke at Taiwan's Taoyuan Airport before leaving for Washington. He mentioned that many leaders from other countries were also making their way to the inauguration despite the heavy snowfall.
He said, "All members of our delegation are heading to the United States with the same enthusiasm to represent Taiwan's 23 million people, and we extend our highest blessings to the U.S. presidential team and the people of the United States."
