President Donald Trump Announces Gaza Ceasefire Agreement, Hostages to be Released Soon

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that a ceasefire agreement has been reached in Gaza.

He stated on the social media platform Truth Social, “We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!”

However, no official statement has yet confirmed the agreement. Sources from Al Jazeera Arabic have reported that Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has met with negotiators from Hamas and Israel in an effort to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the sources, under the proposed agreement, Qatar and Egypt will supervise the return of displaced individuals from southern Gaza to the north. The Israeli military will gradually withdraw from the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza.

At Hamas’s request, in the first phase of the agreement, the Israeli military will withdraw 700 meters (2,297 feet) from the Gaza border. Information obtained from unidentified sources by Al Jazeera Arabic outlines the following stages of the potential ceasefire:

  • The Israeli military will retreat 700 meters inside Gaza.
  • Israel will release about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 serving life sentences.
  • Palestinian groups will release 33 Israeli hostages.
  • Israel will permit injured Gazans to travel for medical treatment.
  • Israel will open the Rafah border crossing with Egypt seven days after the start of the first phase.
  • Israeli forces will gradually withdraw completely from Gaza’s border with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor.
