No Obstacle to Talks with President Donald Trump, We Want Peace, Not War – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied accusations of a plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump in 2024. He stated that Iran has never engaged in such a plot and will never do so in the future. He made these comments in an interview with NBC News on Tuesday, which was broadcast just one week before Trump's inauguration, who had adopted a tough stance against Iran during his first term.

Pezeshkian said, "We have never attempted [the assassination plot on Trump] and we never will." In November 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice charged an Iranian national in connection with an alleged plot by Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members. However, law enforcement prevented the alleged plan and no attack occurred.

Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons. He warned Trump, saying, "We will react to any action, but we do not want war."

He further stated that Iran has no objection to participating in discussions or negotiations, but the reality is that in previous talks, the other party did not fulfill their commitments.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reported on Tuesday that ongoing talks with European powers suggest that they are prepared for renewed negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
