According to a report by TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences following the tragic crash of an Air India aircraft near the Ahmedabad airport in western India. In a message sent on Thursday, President Putin conveyed his sorrow to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Kremlin confirmed.

In his statement, Putin said:

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic consequences of the plane crash at Ahmedabad airport. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Earlier in the day, an Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad airport with 242 passengers on board.
While the official death toll has not yet been confirmed, News18 media reports that at least 294 people have died in the accident.
