Washington/Islamabad/New Delhi – May 10, 2025:
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" following high-level diplomatic negotiations mediated by the United States.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “After intense negotiations lasting through the night and facilitated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.”
He added, “Congratulations to both nations for exercising great wisdom and sound judgment. Thank you for your attention to this important matter!”
The announcement comes amid rising tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors following a wave of deadly attacks and cross-border escalations. The ceasefire agreement is expected to de-escalate the volatile situation along the Line of Control and other sensitive zones.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the development, stating that both countries have reached a consensus on an immediate halt to hostilities.
"Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity," Dar said in an official statement released in Islamabad.
The agreement marks a significant breakthrough after weeks of heightened military activity, drone strikes, and missile exchanges between the two countries. The international community, including the United Nations and regional allies, had been urging both sides to step back from the brink.
Further details about the ceasefire terms and monitoring mechanisms are expected to be released in the coming hours.
