A protest rally led by Siddiqur Rahman, the president of the US Awami League, took place today in Jackson Heights, New York. The rally was organized to express dissatisfaction with the ongoing political situation in Bangladesh, especially regarding the participation of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel laureate and interim government head of Bangladesh, at the recent United Nations General Assembly. His role and recent comments during an interview with Voice of America were the main points of contention for Awami League supporters.

During the protest, Awami League activists harshly criticized Dr. Yunus for his current actions. They expressed that while he is a Nobel laureate and a source of national pride, he should stay away from politics. The speakers at the rally emphasized that Dr. Yunus, as an iconic figure, should maintain his place of honor and refrain from engaging in political matters.

Addressing the gathering, Siddiqur Rahman said, “You are a Nobel laureate, a man of whom we are proud. You have never been involved in politics, so please remain focused on your Nobel legacy.” He went on to accuse Dr. Yunus of filing false cases against Awami League activists, arguing that he had no right to interfere in such matters. Rahman issued a final warning to Dr. Yunus, stating, “We have given you enough time. Do not push this country into chaos.”

Rahman further added, “Two crore Awami League activists are already prepared. They can bring Dhaka and the entire country to a standstill at any moment.” The protest’s tone was clear, cautioning Dr. Yunus and urging him to reconsider his recent activities, which they viewed as destabilizing to the country.

The rally saw the participation of top leaders of the US Awami League, all of whom criticized Dr. Yunus and urged him to contribute to maintaining stability in Bangladesh rather than creating political unrest.
