Premier League leaders Liverpool have confirmed that star Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year contract with the club. This deal extends Salah's journey at Anfield, which has already spanned eight years, by another two years.

The 32-year-old previously played for Chelsea in England and AS Roma in Italy's Serie A. Throughout the current season, there had been strong speculation that Salah might be preparing to bid farewell to Anfield. In December, Salah himself had remarked that a new contract was “still a long way off.”

There had also been talks of a potential move to the Saudi Pro League. Back in September 2023, Saudi club Al-Ittihad reportedly made a record-breaking offer of £215 million (approximately $270 million) for Salah.

However, the Egyptian star has ultimately decided to remain at Liverpool. In a statement after signing the contract, Salah said:

“Of course, I’m very excited. We have a great team now. We had a good team before as well. But I’ve signed the contract because I believe we can win many more trophies and I can continue enjoying my football.”

He added:

“I’ve spent the best years of my career here. Eight years of playing — and hopefully it’ll become ten. I’m really enjoying life and football here.”

Salah also had a message for the fans:

“I’m very happy to stay here. I’ve signed this contract because I believe we can win many big trophies together. Keep supporting us — we’ll give it our all. Insha’Allah, there’s much more success ahead.”
