Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, has called for an immediate end to the Israeli attacks on Gaza, which he described as brutal genocide, and for the establishment of a "final ceasefire."
In his Angelus prayer today, the Pope wrote, "I am saddened to see the resumption of Israeli bombings over Gaza, which has resulted in many deaths and injuries." He made this statement after being discharged from the hospital, following a five-week stay at the hospital at the age of 88.
The Pope stated, "I urge that the weapons be immediately silenced and that courage be found to return to the negotiating table so that all detainees can be released and a final ceasefire can be established."
He further added, "The humanitarian situation in Gaza has once again become very grave, and it requires urgent action from both the conflicting parties and the international community."
This call comes at a time when the military conflict in Gaza is intensifying, and pressure is mounting within the international community for peace.
