Istanbul, March 22 – U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent phone call has been described as "strong" and "transformative" by the U.S. Special Representative for Middle East Affairs, Steve Wittenhoff. However, he noted that the discussion had not been widely reported in the media.
Appearing as a guest on Tucker Carlson’s online program on Friday, Wittenhoff said, "I think the conversation between President Erdogan and the President was very good. I can call it transformative." He further mentioned, "It hasn't been properly reported, to be honest… Events related to Israel and the Russia-Ukraine situation have overshadowed it."
Last Sunday, Turkish President Erdogan spoke over the phone with U.S. President Trump and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations between Turkey and the United States. During the call, they discussed not only their countries' relationship but also regional and global issues.
Wittenhoff also mentioned, "I think Tom Barak, who is the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, played a very important role, and it will continue in the future."
He added, "I think the relationship between the President and Erdogan is very important, and as a result, some good news is coming from Turkey."
Wittenhoff did not provide any further details about the content of the discussion, and Trump has not yet made any comments about the phone call. However, he expressed hope that more significant outcomes would emerge from these talks. "You will see the results in the coming days," said Wittenhoff.
