Root ready to end his century drought down under!

Oct 14 (Reuters):
England’s star batter Joe Root says he is determined to end his century drought in Australia when the Ashes series begins in Perth next month. Despite scoring nine half-centuries on Australian soil, the former England captain has yet to reach a hundred in 27 Test innings there.

Root, who stepped down as captain after the 2021-22 Ashes, has since amassed over 4,000 runs and 16 centuries in Test cricket. Speaking to Sky Sports, the 34-year-old said he feels “more relaxed and experienced” without the captaincy burden.

“I’ve learned valuable lessons from my past tours, and I’m ready for the challenge,” Root said. “There’s always talk about that missing hundred, but I’m confident this time.”

England have not won an Ashes series in Australia since 2011, but Root believes the current squad has the talent and mindset to reclaim the urn. “It’s about winning for the team, not personal milestones. We have the players and the hunger to do it,” he added.

The first Test of the 2025 Ashes series begins on November 21 in Perth.
